With a master's degree in financial planning and experience spanning mortgage lending, financial education, and entrepreneurship, Tom's professional philosophy is grounded in a fundamental belief:
Strong, resilient financial plans begin with a clear understanding of the whole financial picture.
Mortgages, real estate, cash flow, debt, and retirement objectives are interconnected. Understanding those relationships helps reveal financial strengths, identify vulnerabilities, and create more thoughtful paths forward.

Mortgage Approach
A mortgage is often one of the largest financial commitments a person will make. Interest rates, loan costs, and monthly payments matter, but so do liquidity, financial reserves, and long-term flexibility.
Through Good Seed Mortgage, Tom helps clients evaluate how different financing options fit their circumstances. For example, the loan offering the lowest monthly payment may not be the most appropriate choice when total borrowing costs, available cash reserves, and future objectives are considered together.
Tom believes borrowing should serve a thoughtful financial purpose rather than become an objective of its own. Strategic leverage can create opportunities and flexibility, but it also introduces financial obligations and risks that deserve careful consideration.
This philosophy is reflected in the Good Seed mission:
Leverage to Build Wealth™

Educational Background
Tom earned a Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in Finance from South University and a Master of Science in Finance — Financial Planning from Liberty University.
He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Psychology, specializing in Developmental Psychology, at Liberty University. His academic interests focus on financial psychology, particularly how childhood experiences, family environments, financial education, emotions, beliefs, and learned behaviors influence financial decision-making throughout life.
Financial decisions are rarely driven by numbers alone.
Our experiences shape how we perceive debt, approach risk, respond to uncertainty, and define financial security. Someone who experienced financial instability growing up may evaluate borrowing very differently from someone raised in an environment of financial stability.
Tom's interest in financial psychology reflects his desire to better understand the human side of financial decision-making. His continuing studies deepen that perspective, informing how he listens to clients, explores their priorities, and discusses important financial choices.
Service & Perspective
Tom's commitment to service and his interest in financial education began early in life.
At age 19, he embarked on a two-year volunteer mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving communities throughout Connecticut and Rhode Island. During that time, he met individuals and families from widely differing financial circumstances, ranging from significant financial hardship to substantial wealth.
Those experiences helped him recognize how access to education, economic opportunities, financial beliefs, and personal circumstances can influence the choices available to individuals and families.
They also helped establish a conviction that remains central to his professional philosophy:
Financial knowledge and sound financial principles should not be privileges reserved for those who already possess wealth.
Tom's commitment to service continued through six years in the Army National Guard, where he served as a Chaplain Assistant. As a U.S. Army veteran, he draws upon experiences supporting soldiers and chaplains through challenging personal, family, and professional circumstances.
His missionary and military service reinforced the importance of listening carefully, respecting individual circumstances, and serving others with integrity and compassion.
Faith, Family, and the Meaning of Legacy
Faith and family are foundational to Tom's life and his understanding of financial stewardship.
He and his wife, McKenna, are the parents of seven children and proud grandparents. Their family experiences have helped shape his belief that wealth carries both opportunity and responsibility.
For Tom, financial success involves more than accumulated assets. It includes the ability to prepare for uncertainty, care for loved ones, pursue meaningful opportunities, serve others, and create a foundation for future generations.
Wealth is a resource; purpose gives it meaning.
That belief influences how Tom approaches his own financial decisions and the perspective he brings to his professional work.
My Approach
When evaluating mortgage financing, Tom encourages clients to consider questions that extend beyond loan qualification and advertised rates:
- How will this mortgage affect my cash flow, liquidity, and financial flexibility?
- What are the short-term and long-term costs, benefits, and risks?
- How does this financing decision fit my retirement objectives and broader financial priorities?
- What role should home equity play in my financial future?
- How might my experiences, beliefs, and assumptions influence the way I evaluate these options?
Through Good Seed Mortgage, Tom's goal is to help clients understand their financing options, evaluate important tradeoffs, and make informed decisions with confidence.
The goal isn't simply to finance a home. It's to make financial decisions that support the life you want to build.
